Under local law businesses are closed on Sundays, which I think is a pretty great concept except when it impacts me. So instead of shopping, we went snorkeling.
I had always heard that the waters in the Caribbean were blue, but, oh my, they are BLUE! We took a boat out to the USS Kittiwake which was sunk in 2011 to form an artificial reef. The Kittiwake was a submarine rescue and salvage ship, commissioned in the last days of WWII. It currently lies about 60 feet underwater but the water is so clear that every detail is easily visible.
Also visible and way too close were billions, or maybe only a few dozen, jellyfish. They were uncomfortably close. I’ve been stung once and I really didn’t want to relive that morsel of misery. I subsequently learned these were the non-carnivorous kind, so my brush with death was not so near as I had imagined.
BTW, I wanted to take some cool underwater pictures, but Cherri refused to let me use her phone. This boring post is thus entirely her fault.
